Rest and Relax Away Tension and Pain with Craniosacral/Myofascial Unwinding
Sometimes our bodies need signals to rest and relax. That’s where the Craniosacral therapy (CST) and Myofascial Unwinding (MFR) can really help. I’ve seen patients with headaches, low back and sacral pain, or pregnancy related tension all get relief with CST/MFR.
Pregnant patients feel their bodies relax.
One pregnant patient felt that her pelvis was rotated. First, I used the Webster Technique on her. Next, I applied CST/MFR. She said that the standing unwinding felt like “belly dancing,” and she felt her body relax. Specifically, she felt her pelvic floor relax, giving her feelings of confidence that her baby was in an optimal position for birth.
Migraine patients feel a relief in pressure.
A patient with chronic migraine headaches reported that she felt “like her skull is opening up and giving her brain more room.” CST gave her much needed relief from the pressure.
Women in labor experience more ease giving birth.
One patient asked me to support her during her homebirth. She called me when her contractions were about 5 min apart. Once she progressed into more active stages of labor, I performed the standing CST unwinding treatment. She labored with more ease and had a successful homebirth.
How do CST and MFR work to create ease and relieve pressure and tension?
The technique addresses the physical and emotional stressors affecting body function. It assesses and treats tension in the cranium, spine, and musculoskeletal system—tension that may be affecting how the central nervous and musculoskeletal systems respond to demands on our bodies.
Ongoing tension creates overwhelm and perpetual stress.
When your body experiences ongoing tension, your central nervous system becomes overwhelmed. This perpetuates a cycle of stress. As stress goes on and on, the musculoskeletal system protects itself by holding inappropriate motor patterns. These motor patterns and tension shift the body away from a state of homeostasis (regulation). Eventually this negative stress pattern leads to whole system dysfunction.
CST and MFR send calming signals through the nervous system.
Activating the parasympathetic nervous system tells the body that it can relax—think “rest and digest.” With life stages that come with a lot of mental, emotional, and physical stress—like pregnancy or a new high stress job—these techniques send signals of safety and security.
What is it like to get Craniosacral and Myofascial Unwinding?
Craniosacral therapy (CST) / Myofascial Unwinding (MFR) is a gentle hands-on technique that uses a light touch to restore balance within the fascia. In treatment we'll balance the muscles, which realigns the bones, and we'll free up the flow of nerves, blood, and energy channels.
While every patient is different, most see positive results after 2-3 visits.
