Don’t Let Plantar Fasciitis Stop You From Enjoying Life

When plantar fasciitis hits, it puts a full stop on your favorite activities. The nagging discomfort and being unable to move the way you want to can add a lot of frustration to your life. When plantar fasciitis starts getting in the way of your routine, you'll need to take it easy and deal with it. Keeping plantar fasciitis pain in check and safely getting back to your routine is where chiropractic can really help.

While you may not think of chiropractic for foot problems, we actually do treat plantar fasciitis successfully.

What causes plantar fasciitis?

Plantar fasciitis is often caused by overuse, usually from running and high-impact aerobic activities. This is especially true when you wear inappropriate shoes.

What does plantar fasciitis feel like?

Plantar fasciitis causes pain on the bottom of your foot and heel. Most of our patients report their pain is most severe after sitting and when starting to walk in the morning. The pain usually resolves after 5 to 10 minutes of activity, but comes back after they rest.

How do chiropractors diagnose plantar fasciitis?

We begin by taking a thorough history. We look for the types of activities that aggravate your pain, the timing of your pain, and your pain’s duration.

The exam also includes orthopedic testing. We use palpation to determine that you actually have plantar fasciitis. We also work to eliminate the possibility of other underlying foot conditions.

How do chiropractors treat plantar fasciitis?

We have generally found that chiropractic adjustments and myofascial blading combined is effective to reduce your symptoms.

Plantar fasciitis treatment works by relieving the tension applied to the plantar fascia. Reducing this tension reduces inflammation, and supports the arch of your foot. This gives the plantar fascia time to heal. We also work to improve your gait mechanics, so that less strain is placed on your foot during activity.

How long does chiropractic treatment take to heal plantar fasciitis?

Treating your plantar fasciitis can take time. You may start to see improvements early on in your treatment plan, but that doesn't mean the treatment is finished.

It actually takes about 6 to 8 months, and sometimes up to a year, to fully address your underlying dysfunction. Restoring your foot function and learning proper gait mechanics are essential for achieving a pain-free life. Patience and commitment are key as we work together to heal your plantar fasciitis and ensure long-lasting results.

What's the best self-care for plantar fasciitis?

Purchasing proper footwear, or getting a functional orthotic, is usually the first step.

Exercises that strengthen the foot and support the arches will relieve tension on your plantar fascia.

Kinesiology tape like RockTape to support the arches on the bottom of your foot can also help.
