Chiropractic is the largest natural healing art in the world. It is based on spinal manipulation, the chiropractic adjustment, to treat spinal injuries, known as vertebral subluxations. While not as serious as paralytic injures, subluxation can reduce the function of your nervous system. Chiropractic care will restore and revitalize the integrity of your nervous system. If you or your family are being challenged with pain, sickness or dis-ease; there is no better time than now to begin your chiropractic journey!
An adjustment is another word for spinal manipulation. It removes joint fixations which are called subluxations by chiropractor. In chiropractic terms a subluxation is when one or more bones (vertebrae) is out of alignment or not moving properly. This can put pressure on spinal nerves, decrease range of motion, and often cause pain. But like a cavity on your tooth, you can have a subluxation and not feel it.
A lot of people ask this question and it is not recommended. Chiropractors are highly trained to locate and safely adjust joint fixations. In this case, it is best if you “Do not try this at home.”
Why do I sometimes hear a ‘popping’ sound when I get adjusted?
When the doctor adjusts you there is a change in pressure in your joint space as the bones move slightly, thus releasing a gas bubble when the joint is pushed into place. It is very much like the sound of a vacuum being released when a suction cup is pulled apart
Chiropractic adjustments should be painless. In the case of recent trauma or injury when there is inflammation and muscle guarding there can be temporary discomfort. However, most patients generally report feeling significant relief immediately following the adjustment. Often people feel better then they have in years after following thru with their course of treatment!
It all depends on what brought you in the first place.
